APS plans to build world’s largest solar thermal generating station near Gila Bend.

It will be called Solana and when completed it will cover 3 square miles and produce 280 megawatts which is enough to provide electricity to 70,000 customers. The plan is to have it in operation by 2011 at a cost of 1 billion dollars. All the electricity produced by the station will be sold to APS. This will be a huge boost for clean energy production in Arizona and hopefully just the begining.
