It is interesting to read how people are just catching on to the need for and benefits of sustainable development. The process began in earnest 20 years ago among companies serious about their future. They formed the Business Council for Sustainable Development, the Global Environmental Management Initiative, Responsible Care, and other organizations to help create methods for pursuing sustainable development - reducing their negative environmental, health and safety impacts while improving their productivity and profitability. Wise companies have been using the ICC's 16 Priniciples for Sustainable Development, ISO 14000 and other guidelines for years - and reaping the benefits in lower costs, reduced liabilities and greater market share. It's about time that companies in Arizona began using proven approaches to making their companies last - making them more sustainable.
