donate your graduation gown

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the new ASU graduates! You’ve studied hard, invested blood, sweat, tears, and a ton of cash in your education, and even splurged an extra $40+ or so for the duds to look the part at graduation. But what to do with the robes now? How many of these do you think are gathering dust in peoples’ closets or made their way to the landfills? This may seem trivial on an individual basis but at a school of 68,000 students with 8,000 graduates in a single semester, these light weight robes could wield a heavy impact. Why not do something better?!

Donate your graduation gown to ecocentricity!
Future graduates will be able to pay a small rental fee to use the gowns
and these “disposable” petrol-derived fashion abominations will be given second lives! Your gown represents an awful lot but you will never use it again. Let someone else get good use out of it and save some space in a landfill.

Drop your robes off at:

Hey thanks for helping to spread the word! We appreciate it. We had no idea students were buying thousands of new robes each year. Although many will want to keep the cap and tassel, what do you do with the robe? Our intern Katie and her friend Casey came up with this idea and we thought it was a great one!

The School of Sustainability announced yesterday that students could turn in their robes for reuse in future years. Yay! Way to go, Katie and Casey! We’d still like to get students from other schools to donate robes for reuse too — they can still bring them to ecocentricity! and we’ll get them to the SOS.
